Emma has 2 daughters aged 14 & 12, the youngest of whom was diagnosed with epilepsy aged 3, ASD aged 6 and ADHD aged 8. While in mainstream school since nursery, her school based anxiety and refusal became so great in Year 3, she was diagnosed with school phobia and spent 2 years attending for 1 hour per day until a place at special school was obtained. After almost 2 years in the specialist setting, the placement broke down and she has been out of school for over a year being ‘non-electively’ home educated. Emma works as a training consultant for a local charity delivering courses on ASD & ADHD to parents and professionals across her county. She is also Patient and Public Involvement lead for a research programme to transform mental health care for children and young people with epilepsy.
