Joseph Watfa is an experienced, youth worker, educator, coach, and researcher. He has acquired experience within these roles over the past five years through his academic qualifications and professional experience. Whilst undertaking his BA in History and Economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies Joseph co-founded Football Beyond Borders, a non-profit which seeks to use football as a tool to create opportunities for young people from low income backgrounds and develop their skills for their future. Joseph is currently Head of Delivery at Football Beyond Borders. After completing his BA in 2011, Joseph traveled to Egypt where he taught English, subsequently undertaking a Masters in Middle East Studies at Lund University. During this time Joseph published papers in academic journals and presented at conferences and discussions in the UK, Sweden, and the United States on topics related to marginalisation, education, and resistance. On his return to the UK, Joseph took a role as a development officer at JUSTICE, leading on fundraising, CRM and supporting the planning and execution of events. Joseph joined Football Beyond Borders full time in 2016 as Head of Education, focused on designing the FBB Curriculum, developing FBB’s pedagogical approach and the training of staff. In 2017, Joseph became Head of Delivery at Football Beyond Borders, focusing on overall design and oversight of FBB programmes, the training and line management of senior practitioners, project management and creative direction/project design of FBB’s projects with corporate partners.
