Why start early? Mental Health Champions in Primary Schools

Cognita Venue 2

12:20 pm - 1:00 pm

Wellbeing Summit

A common misconception is that wellbeing is of particular significance for adolescents and teenagers. Yet 1 in 10 primary school children aged 5 to 10 has an identifiable mental health condition – that’s around three children in every class.

Led by experts from children’s mental health charity Place2Be, this session explores the importance of starting wellbeing awareness and support from an early age – and discusses the importance of supporting and equipping school leaders to understand their pupils’ mental health needs.

Drawing upon learnings from Place2Be’s Mental Health Champions programme and the Mentally Healthy Schools website, launched in 2018 by the Duchess of Cambridge as a legacy of the Heads Together campaign, the session will explore the resources available to support educators’ understanding of mental health issues.
