This session introduces the concept of the joined-up curriculum and looks at how it can enhance memory recall as well as to ensure deep learning through a focus on ‘the things being studied themselves’ rather than the many distractions that seem to get in the way of a thoughtful approach to planning. When children know their target grade more than they do the subject being studied there is a problem. The pursuit of wisdom should be at the core of schooling rather than chasing the data. Martin Robinson will look at why what we teach, how we organise it and the stories we tell are important in developing the quality of our pupils’ knowledge and understanding, their conversations, thinking, and their work.
