This talk will look at the concepts of Social Mobility, Cultural Capital and Literacy, and Powerful Knowledge. By questioning whether these are justifiable or achievable aims for an education system as a whole let alone for individual schools an alternative proposition will be explored. By stating that the ideas that lie at the heart of much of today’s educational philosophy and approaches are problematic Robinson will offer the idea of Cultural Mobility, which can bring together a broad range of disciplines, and teachers and their pupils in the common pursuit of wisdom. The talk will both challenge and inspire. Oh, and hopefully there will be some laughs on the way.
