What coaches need to know about the science of learning

8 July | 3:30 pm - 4:15 pm

Instructional coaching is a powerful, well-evidenced tool to improve teaching in schools, but it’s less clear how we might train and support great coaches. In this session Sam and Alex will explore how understanding the science of learning can develop coaching expertise. They will offer their unique insights as trained instructional coaches, both previously employed by Ambition Institute, both now leading teacher development in school Trusts serving primary and secondary schools. Sam and Alex will suggest that our best bet in reaping the many rewards of instructional coaching is by investing in training coaches through a coherent, contextualised coaching curriculum, with the science of learning at its heart.
