7 July | 11:15 am - 12:00 pm

By age 11, poor children are on average nine months behind their richer peers. But did you know that only 14% of this gap relates to what happens at school, compared to 49% that relates to what happens at home? Parental engagement in learning is key to narrowing the disadvantage gap, which been widened by the pandemic. In this session we will explore the power dynamic that often exists between teachers and parents. We will consider what effective parental engagement looks like in reality and how schools can help to break down the barriers facing the most disadvantaged families.
