The problem of assessing oracy: is comparative judgement the answer?
7 July | 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm
Hear the findings of ‘Comparing Talk’, a Voice 21 and Rethinking Assessment research project working with schools across the UK to develop a new approach to oracy assessment. We wanted our assessment tool to be easy for teachers to use, whilst providing reliable insight into students’ attainment and progress. A ‘comparative judgement’ approach offers an alternative to rubrics and descriptors – and gives teachers the ability to directly compare their own students to those of similar ages across the UK. This session will share what we learnt – and what this means for oracy assessment in the classroom.
