Stabilising the Transition State between A-Level and Degree Level Chemistry
7 July | 10:00 am - 10:45 am
A Level chemistry fails in its fundamental goal: to prepare students for a challenging undergraduate degree. Extension chemistry can help students bridge the gap between A-Level and degree level, and can also make the difference between acceptance and rejection from Oxbridge. This talk will focus on how to teach extension chemistry effectively and engagingly. Sky will discuss: – what topics are great to extend on – how to curate extension questions that are desirably difficult – training students to tackle extension problems (incl. problems from the UK Chemistry Olympiad) – techniques that help students think like chemistry experts.
