Racial equality in teaching – what next for reducing ethnic disparities?

8 July | 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm

People from Asian, black, mixed and other ethnic backgrounds are under-represented in the teaching profession, especially at leadership levels, and face significant barriers to progressing within teaching compared to their white counterparts. This session will highlight the key insights from a recent comprehensive research study of racial equality in teaching, which identifies where the inequalities are greatest within the teacher career journey from applications to initial teacher training to moving into senior positions, including becoming headteachers. The session will explore what actions school leaders and other practitioners can take to promote greater equality in the teaching profession.
