Improving racial equality in the teacher workforce

People from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds are under-represented in teaching profession, especially at leadership levels, and face significant barriers to progression within the teaching profession. This session will highlight the key insights from a recent comprehensive research study of racial equality in teaching, which identifies where inequalities are greatest within the teaching journey from applications to initial teacher training to moving into senior positions, including becoming headteachers. The session will explore what actions school leaders and other practitioners can take to promote greater equality in the teaching profession.
