How online learning fails its learners (and what we can do about it)

As learning apps and educational platforms multiply and reach all sections of the population with their enticing offer of learning a new skill, infinite opportunities and ways to practice or the chance to gain a qualification, we take a hard look at the unspoken problem of online learning: high dropout rates. Based on our research, we explore how learners can be motivated by activities and assessments to continue to the finish line. Our attempts to find a solution while meeting the demands of a diverse body of learners have implications for the classroom practitioner and the future of online learning
