How Can Modelling in EYFS Increase Children’s Skills and Knowledge?

7 July | 10:00 am - 10:45 am

As passionate early years’ practitioners we want all our children to have learning experiences that excite them, extends their knowledge and skills and develops their cultural capital. We firmly believe that all children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds should be explicitly taught and it should not be left to chance/osmosis. To enable this in our settings we use modelling as a key strategy to support learning. Throughout the day adults use a wide range of ‘modelling’ techniques. This daily repetition of adults modelling, quality interactions and children applying the learning has a really positive impact on outcomes.
