Going on a Bear Hunt: Making Desirable Difficulties Desirable
8 July | 10:00 am - 10:45 am
Taking Bjork’s notion of desirable difficulties as a starting point, the session will offer a perspective on some ways in which appropriate challenges can be established and achieved in the classroom. A particular area of focus will be how teachers can make the aims and benefits of desirable difficulty explicit and engaging to learners but there will also be reference made to the benefits of growth mindset, interleaving, retrieval practice and oracy. The talk is based upon a year-long study undertaken as part of Bedford School’s side-by-side peer coaching programme.
