Everyday Evidence Based Teaching: 10 years of insights

8 July | 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm

How do you help good teachers be great and great teachers be experts? This question led St. Andrew’s (USA, DC area) to train 100% of its teachers and school leaders in evidence based practices, and to establish its Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL) back in 2011. We take promising research and strategies in areas such as cognitive load, memory, executive function, feedback, literacy, metacognition, motivation, stress, mindsets for learning, and homework, and make it usable. Today’s session will help teachers and school leaders: (1) elevate their understanding of how the brain learns, works and thrives; and (2) translate evidence-based principles into everyday actions that work for them in their unique context, and which address needs and opportunities that actually exist. In doing so, we pull from ten years of experience helping teachers across the world make the science of teaching and learning come alive. If you want to know What does evidence based practice look like at 2:00pm next Thursday in my class?, or How do I bring evidence based teaching to a whole school?, come to this session.
