10 things your students want you to know about oracy

7 July | 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm

‘Voice’ is a complex concept. Beyond the act of speaking, it refers to the right of students to express their ideas and feel heard. Drawing on data collected from 1994 students across England, we explore student perceptions of oracy. How do students feel about ‘cold calling’? How can teachers overcome potential barriers of anxiety, embarrassment and a reluctance to participate? What do students value most about oracy? Utilising original research, this session will explore how students experience oracy in the classroom before considering what teachers can do to foster a culture in which oracy is nurtured, valued and celebrated.
