Mehreen Baig

Mehreen Baig will speak at the Festival on Day One.

Mehreen Baig is a former teacher and trailblazing broadcaster and author, who is passionate about education and empowering young people.

Her move from teaching to broadcasting began in 2016 when Mehreen took part in the BAFTA -winning documentary Muslims Like Us (BBC2). That year, Mehreen became the face of BBC’s British Asian Season and was named one of the most inspirational and powerful women of the year by The Telegraph, alongside Michelle Obama and Adele.

Her television credits include Islam, Women and Me (BBC1), The Truth About Cosmetic Treatments (BBC1) and Inside Chelsea: Britain’s Wealthiest Borough (BBC2). In 2021, she hosted her Radio 4 podcast, The Secret Life of Teachers, and her debut book, Hidden Lessons, was published in 2021 by Hodder. It gained high praise from politicians and writers such as Jeremy Corbyn, David Lammy, Adam Kay, and Sathnam Sanghera, who called it a “wake-up call”.

Last year, she launched an online video series,  Glow Up Your Grades as a free resource to support young people in their GCSEs post-pandemic, which was hailed “revolutionary”. In its first year, the project has amassed millions of views across social media, and in 2024, Harper Collins published the Glow Up Your Grades revision guide, which has been called “the ultimate revision guide for Gen Z-ers”
