James Townsend is Chief Programme Officer at STIR Education, an organisation dedicated to increasing intrinsic motivation amongst teachers. James has previously held roles with Teach First and at the Institute for Philanthropy, where he was UK Founding Director of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, providing secondary school students with a hands-on experience of community giving. Prior to that James taught History at Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets as part of inaugural Teach First cohort. James graduated from New College, Oxford University with a degree in Modern History and from the Institute of Education with a Masters in Education Policy.
