Following a history degree at Cambridge, Fiona taught in two comprehensive schools. She then worked on education and apprenticeships for the CBI and Private Equity Foundation, a philanthropic fund supporting children at risk of being NEET. She ran an EEF funded summer school for Year 5 and 6s in Edmonton North London, served on the secretariat for a Government Review into Social Action (now the Step up to Serve Campaign) and as Director of Policy for City Year UK. She is now back in the classroom in a Cambridgeshire comprehensive combining teaching history with her enthusiasm for social action.
