Expert teacher at Wellington College
Denise is an expert teacher at Wellington College, where she has taught English since 1998.
She is also Wellington’s Head of Equity and Inclusion. Informed by her interest in ‘diversity issues’, she undertook a research teaching fellowship on how (teacher and pupil) cognitive biases stemming from social and emotional perspectives can impact on pupil engagement and learning. She has since used her research, and continued reading on cognitive biases, to develop a model of classroom practice where teachers and pupils collaborate on pupils’ stated individual learning goals to realise formal curriculum objectives.
