Alom Shaha teaches Physics at The Watford UTC and The Camden School for Girls. As well as teaching, Alom writes about science and education for a number of print and online publications, and is the author of Mr Shaha’s Recipes for Wonder and The Young Atheist’s Handbook. In the early 2000s, Alom took a break from teaching to work in the television industry, where he produced, wrote, and directed programmes on subjects ranging from mathematics to the history of particle physics. He returned to teaching part-time and continues to make films, including the online video series ExpeRimental for the Royal Institution, as well as an ongoing series of videos about science teaching which are used on teacher training courses around the world. Alom has been chair of governors at the primary school he attended as a child, and has represented his community as a local councillor. He has been chair of trustees of a children’s charity and currently serves on the board of Humanists UK. As well as a passion for science and education, Alom has a deep love of literature and completed an MA in Creative Writing in 2017.
