Phil Mellen

Phil is Deputy Director of Children and Families at Leeds City Council, in charge of education across the second largest metropolitan council in England. A teacher since 1993, Phil has led primary and secondary schools in some of the most deprived wards in the country. He was also Head of Virtual School for Looked After Children for 3 years. He is delighted to be involved in a session about on ‘Growing up in Austerity’ as it is vital that we understand and address the impact that poverty can have on education and life chances.
