Angela Barry

Angela Barry is a highly experienced education leader and trustee who has been in the teaching profession for 34 years, 22 of them as headteacher or executive leader in a range of schools. Angela worked as a teacher in several primary schools before becoming headteacher in 1998 before becoming the founding chief executive of the successful Woodland Academy Trust, in Bexley, from 2011 to 2017. She has led numerous training modules, including safeguarding and leadership development, and is an accredited facilitator of the National College’s National Professional Qualification (NPQ) courses. She is a member of the NAHT and was formerly an appointed member of the Head Teacher Board of the Regional Schools Commissioner for the South East and South London region, was a member of the DfE’s working group on reducing workload, and was, prior to retirement, an NLE. Post retirement Angela has broadened her experience by becoming interim CEO of three trusts, which included secondary, all-through and alternative provisions, whilst working with various colleagues to successfully lead those trusts through the rebrokering of their academies to a variety of strong new trusts. Currently Angela is working as executive support in another mixed MAT prior to becoming its Interim CEO in September. In her spare time Angela is a Member of The Stour Academy Trust and supports Bexley Local Authority on their Admissions’ Appeals and Exclusion Panels. Angela is a keen gardener, an amateur bee-keeper and prides herself on an excellent work-life balance.
