LKMco and Pearson have undertaken a major piece of research, looking at concerns about assessment among teachers, governors, parents, and young people, and how these concerns could be addressed so that assessment and testing underpin rather than undermine classroom teaching. The research draws from a national poll of over 1,000 teachers, expert interviews, and domestic and international case studies. The report argues for a strict division of labour between formative and summative assessments in schools, and far greater access to ongoing training in assessment for teachers. It also suggests ways in which assessment data can better inform school accountability.
