What reading tests tell us – implications for teaching and learning

In this session, NFER Research Managers Anne Kispal and Jemma Coulton will present their recent work on developing formative guidance for teachers based on NFER’s new Year 6 reading assessments. This guidance consists of a set of ‘implications for teaching’ derived from the common patterns of performance on different types of reading comprehension questions in the test.

They will outline the process for arriving at this formative guidance, the most interesting findings about pupil misconceptions and strengths in answering certain type of questions and how the observations from summative assessments can reveal useful information for further teaching and learning.

This is a great opportunity for teachers and school leaders to find out what the data from reading tests can tell us and the implications for teaching and learning.

Across two days, over 250 sessions will take place at the Festival. A full timetable of sessions will be available from late May 2019. Until this point we will only be announcing the day(s) sessions will be taking place.
