Senior curriculum leadership: what knowledge do we need to lead outside of our specialism?

You return from your summer holiday to find out you will line manage the Chinese History Department. Your heart sinks. You know nothing about Chinese nor History but must lead a curriculum review in response to some disappointing results.
This is the type of challenge facing many senior leaders in schools. They are accountable for evaluating the quality of a curriculum, but are not an expert in that subject. In this session we will explore the challenges of senior curriculum leadership and consider the knowledge base needed by senior leaders to support and challenge middle leaders to develop a coherent and powerful curriculum.
