The Summer Camps Trust is a recently formed charitable Trust, whose aim is to give many more British 8 to 16 year-olds from all schools and backgrounds the opportunity to take part in well-run residential summer camps during part of their school holidays. The Trust believes there has rarely been a time when our children are more in need of occasional weeks away from i-pads and computer games just enjoying running about in green fields living some “real childhood”. The Trust also believes that to provide opportunities for young people from many different schools and parts of the UK to meet up in a happy holiday community is of great value both to those who live it and to our society in general. The Trust is run by a board of Trustees including people from the three main political parties and others well respected in the outdoor education world. The Trust has fifteen subscribing members, among them PGL, Outward Bound and Kingswood, also the NCS, Natural England and the YHA. In 2019 the Trust will be promoting both a number of “affordable summer camps” for children who have never attended a summer camps before, also training weeks for 17 to 25 year-olds to work as leaders in summer camps.
