Great School Libraries is a campaign run by the School Library Association (SLA) and CILIP School Libraries Group (SLG) to improve the provision of school libraries in the UK.
The SLA believes that every pupil is entitled to effective school library provision and is committed to supporting everyone involved with school libraries, promoting high quality reading and learning opportunities for all. CILIP SLG offers help and support to members and hold a conference every two years that provides a forum for discussion and debate on current issues in school librarianship. Both organisations hold regional training courses on a wide range of topics concerned with school librarianship and campaign in support of school libraries, school librarians and Schools Library Services (SLSs). CILIP SLG publish the journal School Libraries in View (SLiV), circulate a monthly e-newsletter to members and produce publications such as CILIP Guidelines for Secondary School Libraries. The SLA publish a quarterly journal, The School Librarian, which highlights best practice, circulate a monthly e-newsletter to members and produce a wide-range of publications suitable for both primary and secondary schools.
